My router isn't here yet, so the cable modem has been running on the HP with XP. I need to get some pictures off of the Compaq with 2000, so...

I put the Kingston 8-port switch back in the mix- plugged the cable modem into port 1, the XP machine into port 2, and the 2000 machine into port 3.

Internet still works on the XP system as it did when the modem was connected directly to it. However, the XP and 2000 machines refuse to see each other! They did, albeit with some issues, before the cable modem arrived. File/print sharing is turned on with both machines, with the desired folders shared. Both have the same workgroup name and each has unique computer names. I've been through the troubleshooters and searched for hours on the net.

What am I overlooking?
