My credit card has been taking a beating over the last few days. This is what I've bought so far:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ (90nm Winchester core) with Arctic Silver 5 and a Zalman 7700Cu HSF

OCZ EL PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Rev 2 2x512MB memory (a donation to MS's retirement fund )

Maxtor MaxLine III SATA 300GB drive with Nexus DiskTwin vibration isolators

(1) eVGA 6800GT 256MB PCIe with a Zalman VF700Cu HSF

Beyerdynamic DT770-80 headphones

I built this machine with an emphasis on silence yet still be very fast for gaming. The whole thing only cost me around $2200.

The only thing left to buy is a case. I really want an Antec P180 but they're not available yet. I'll probably buy some cheapie that can handle 120mm fans until the P180 is in retail channels.

I got the Beyerdynamic hifi headphones for late night fragging (the upstairs neighbors are not fans of my Klipsch Ultra 5.1's ). They have great soundstage and huge amounts of bass which means they'll be perfect for FPS's.

I decided against SLI for now. All reports indicate the next generation of graphics cards will be arriving in just a few months. I'll just eBay the 6800GT and grab whatever's next .

All this stuff should arrive before the end of next week. Next weekend should be fun .
