I disagree: you didn't fix it, you "jury-rigged" it, and that may be a way to get yourself a fire sometime in the future.

Notably, if those capacitors are damaged, one possible failure mode is short-circuit. In such a case an electrolytic capacitor usually just overheats and open up with a loud bang, but if the AC mains fuse is bypassed, something much worse is possible thereafter.
