PPPoE is all that is offered. The program that they used when they installed the dsl never caused this problem. Of course that was on 98se. When I upgraded to xp I went with microsofts built in PPPoE because it didn't seem to slow the cpu down. There is a free PPPoE program over at DSL Reports. Maybe I will give it a try. I just thought maybe there was some option I could turn off/on that would stop it from doing whatever it is doing. I guess that is why it only takes a second to connect when I start up the PPPoE program. My old one took a lot longer to connect. I just thought maybe the new one was better.
