I always like as small of an OS partition as possible. Makes for a much smaller and faster ghost backup or restore operation as well as faster defrag, scandisk, etc... When some of the MS excess baggage is pruned you can ghost an XP OS partition to one 650MB CD, although that may or may not be possible after a SP2 bugware patch update and ghost may need to span a few CDs. (I've been holding off ALAP)

You could use a newer version of ghost with DVD support I guess and still backup to one disk, but that version eats up too much boot floppy real estate. (Only a concern for older systems that can't boot from an optical disc or folks like me that prefer pocket-sized media with added utils).
