No dice. Did both. I'm just going to do a clean install tomorrow. I hope he learned not to let idiot friends of his browse questionable sites and/or receive questionable files from other people. I've narrowed it down to one of those two things as the probable cause.
Which reminds me. Another oddity I found was that there were two .reg files sitting in the root directory of the C drive. He sure as hell didn't put them there. I went through his registry and eliminated all the entries that were added, but that didn't help either. Seemed to have been spyware type crap as it referenced a search engine making the address bar search with said engine.
One more quick question. I'd rather not have to copy all of his shit over to my PC and back again. If I were to run setup (command prompt full setup style) on the PC would it save what was there? Although maybe copying everything over and reinstalling on a clean disk would be best as I'd have to go through and delete the old winders install from the PC and defrag just to get the OS back to the beginning of the disk. Any thoughts on that process and which way would be best?
