I am glad you agree Connie, as I am always unsure whether other people see things the same way I do. CD security is another invasion of privacy I agree. I think that if people let them then money making enterprises will take liberties and present this as perfectly justified, it just part of their nature.
Having studied various animals some usually considered dangerous others repulsive, I am used to gazing on the repellant with a dispassionate eye. I think that one cannot expect a scorpion for example to do anything other than that which its instincts dictate, and its a small step from this to understanding that corporations too are trapped by the logic of survival. I dont blame them, nor do I put my shoes on when in an equatorial country without checking whats in them.
Currently the entire world and particularly the US are experiencing a seige like mentality due to the economic slow down and also the battle between reviled terrorists and elected authority.
I think the criticism of home-grown US institutions has, understandably, been sharply curtailed due to this. People appreciate that these corporations are part of the economic dynamo that contributes to the wealth and power of their entire nation and so are cutting them some slack, but these companies are not elected.
And I would point out that US products have become very competitive worldwide precisely because of the demanding nature of the US public and the rewards in such a large economy of getting it right, so I think its a mistake to let MS get away with this without giving them any kind of feedback about which direction they ought to be going in though I appreciate its a sensitive time for everyone and I do not want to be singled out as a rabble rouser !
