Microsoft hasn't allowed multiple OS installs since back in the WFW3.11 days (and the legal requirement was that only 1 machine could be used at a time). People just kept doing it, like you, thinking it was perfectly legit. And then there were the people that flat out pirated it. Well, now they found a way to keep them from doing it, at everyone elses expense.
