AFAIK so long as NT is installed on the first 8GB of drive space and the primary boot partition is FAT16 or NTFS, NT should run.

Mirroring is not an option, I specifically need to change the partition sizes. Actually, I cheated on WinMe by making c: on the 40GB a bare bootable drive, then booting NT on the old drive with the new one installed as secondary and just copying the entire WinMe partition over. Unfortunately NT is not so simple, even logged in as administrator there are about 15 files of about 20MB total which it will not let you touch in any way, including a copy command.

But, if NT setup cannot read the drive, a direct-copy is a non-issue anyway right now (i.e., I would get the same blue screen UNLESS this is a specific issue that was corrected in a service pack).
