make the third partition in the extented partition as small as possible like 4, 6, 8, 16 K.
Sometimes just to get rid of a headache you have to do something weird.
Try moving the drive around to from different ports like slave, master, or a different master, slave.
You will find lots of computers like this, I am working on an old P133 gateway & will only use one HD in the system. My ORB backup HD cartiage system gave me trouble on a master
channel but worked fine on a slave. When the Orb was added that made it the third HD.
