The memory caching should be controlled by the chipset, not the processor. I'd guess that a Celeron 466 is running on a BX chipset, and I'm pretty sure the BX can cache at least 512 MB. Unless it's some crappy motherboard that uses an off-brand chipset (something like PC Chips)?

If it actually is slower, then maybe it was running CAS2 with 128 MB, and it's at CAS3 with 256. I don't know if the person would notice a difference, though.

What is it that the person thinks the system is doing slower than before?
