i would just make the cd-rom drive
primary or secondary master on the 66 controler.

i rarely install win9x from the cd
its easier and faster to copy the cab files to
the hdd. it also saves having to haul out the cd
everytime windows wants a file from it in the future.

usually put the cab files on a seperate partition
other than c and run setup from there. then attrib
the win9x setup folder read only after defrag.

then when the inevitable "format C:" time comes it's
simpler to reinstall windoze.

even better is to image C: with ghost or drive image
after all the tweaks and be back to clean and mean in
10 minutes or so. i stash the image on the same partition
as the cab files but keep a burned image on cdr just in case
i gotta slick the whole hdd or it crashes.

imo it's best to wear belt and suspenders when dealing with
pc+microflaccid.
