Haha.. driver woesiez... Well, I went for the gut on an old XP installation and threw in the 5850 over an existing installation of the 4870. Of course, the message was that there was no ATI hardware installed ... (I think they still say ATI), and then I tried to install the drivers from the ASUS install DVD. That one gave me an instant reboot everytime and I first thought that my system was just hosed .. too much mucking around with different CPUs etc.

Then I DL the Catalyst 9.10 drivers from AMD, uninstalled the "graphics drivers only" and ran the installation of the new package and 2 min later + reboot I was up and running again with full functionality.

BTW, I also did a little OC on that card with the core from 725MHz to 1025GHz and the memory from 4000 GTs to 4600GTs .. getting me almost 17k GPU score in 3DMVantage.

Had to crank up the voltage to 1.3V core, though and it started sounding like a wind tunnel.
