I have used DiscWizzard successfully on many different drives but they might have gotten smart and put in a limitation where only their own drives are recognized.

Acronis, BTW, seems to be the same source, that is "Ontrack" that was acquired later by IBM (IIRC).. I could email you a copy of the old IBM DiskManager version, which has yet to fail me on any installation.
