Attended the invite only AMD event last night in SF..........

Looks like AMD will be making a big leap with this CPU......just awesome....

6.2gig LN2 WPrime 32bit run, 6.33 seconds, off the shelf CPU

5.8+ gig Crysis time demo bench passed

Both done with 1.9v to CPU....

4.4 gig on a Prometia (could be bringing mine out of retirement)

4 gig on air, even with the stock cooler (wow!), uh, get this, clocked to 4 gig it was idling @13/14*c on all cores with a coolermaster heatpipe, dual fanned monster.........

no water setup was spotted...

lots of giveaways, 6 to 8 Phenoms, to be delivered early next year, several ATI 4800's, and4 Killer Brand network gaming NIC's (I snagged one), so did my bud....

Free food, hosted bar, several attendees were giving the free Vodka a good test....

A few of these processors will trickle out late December, mainstream Jan/Feb 2009.....

Side by side DDR2 and DDR3 setups clocked to the same 4 gig, virtually a tie for performance, so save some hard earned, DDR2 will perform rather nicely.....

A blue screen was spotted during one of the LN2 runs, felt like home benching, LOL...

And I snuck into the bios on the phase change unit, wanted to see if the unit had any room left so I could report a higher MHZ, upped the x only .5, was greeted with a blank screen, yellow light monitor status....it was near the end of the evening, I slithered away and went back to one of the gaming consoles....

Anyway, if the retail product is truly the same as what I saw (I was assured that it was), AMD is not taking a small step up in performance and MHZ but a significant LEAP in performance and and MHZ, finally, some Intel like headroom from a 2.8 gig default PhenomII (luv that 4 gig on air)

There were like 10 setups to play with, including 2 gaming stations running the display on huge screens, none running less than 4 gig.....

So, there is still hope....Intel can wait now, gotta go to the new PhenomII when the time is right.....

laterzzzzzz..............
