The MOSFETs can take it for a whilte, but If capacitors are being run that hot, they will have a very short life.

Overheats in the power circuit can also cause crashes, yes. You may need to rig a fan to circulate extra air around that part of the board. Very probabaly there is a stagnant pocket there, so the components just get hotter and hotter.
