That should be the maximum power the drive can dissipate if it's operating flat-out, or 8.35W total -- the same as two nightlight bulbs, and slightly less than the 9.84W maximum either of the Seagate 7200.10 disks in my desktop system can chew on. It would definitely get warm in operation but not enough to endanger the drive.

However, if you're going to convince people to spend $1/GB for a mechanical hard disk, it does help from a marketing perspective if they get something massive and shiny
