this AM my secondary hard drive (sata) had rocketed to 37*c, it contains the temp file for IE and games and intensive video programs, so it gets accessed all the time.
turns out the little hard drive cooler, the kind that screws to the bottom of the hard drive, had ceased to function because the plugin had loose pins and little wiggles, like taking the side panel on and off would make the connection fail. fixed problem and watched the HD temp plummet 22*c to 15*c.
i never used to use these coolers, always thought my cases had enough air flow, but the secondary is tucked up out of the air flow but low in the case for ease of hookup, so i went to using these coolers on selected hardwares.......
as you can see, the difference is dramatic and i am sure it helps with hard drive performance and surely increases the longevity.
might even be the answer for that occassional 'strange error' that defies investigation.............and certainly sopmething to pay attention to when summer rolls around again..............
