If you don't have additional entries on the menu (e.g. custom startup options or another OS), it seems to ignore your timeout settings anyway, but if you have altered them it still shows the white bar -- at least, near as I can tell. I only have one XP machine of my own so I haven't had much opportunity to experiment.
