754 Athlon 64 processors only have a single-memory controller built into the processor. The 754 motherboards are the ones that have 3 DDR memory slots. Due to the single-memory controller, you will not have to use two DDR memory sticks to get your computer going, one will do you for this mobo. Presently, I have a 754 mobo and I can run with one memory stick.

OTOH, 939 Athlon 64 processors have a dual-memory controller built into the processor. You will notice that the 939 mobos will have 4 DDR memory slots. This is where you have to buy two of the same DDR memory sticks.
