You're discovering one of the many reasons why it's best to install an OS on its own small partition separate from your installed apps and data.
Moving it is a lot quicker and easier.
The OS is where most problems arise and therefore it gets backed up more frequently before experimenting with new ware and when a problem does happen the restore is fast.
Scandisk shows its face for a much shorter period of time.
The OS becomes fragmented a lot less often and running a defrag app is faster.
I can backup the OS to one CD which is made bootable, so whenever the inevitable need for a restore of Windoze happens, it's almost painless.
Smaller partitions are more efficient. The larger the partition, the more it wastes space due to larger clusters when using a FAT file system.
