If you're buying an OEM system or a pre-assembled system from a local builder, overheating should not be a problem no matter which vendor made your CPU.

If you're building your own system, then it is true that cooling issues can be a bit more tricky with AMD hardware, but they are not normally problematic. Typically if you hear statements like that, they are coming from hardcore enthusiasts who like to change their hardware often and push it beyond its specified limits.
