If I leave my computer (internet) for only up to 2 hours I will leave it on, if I am leaving the computer for 6 hours & longer I will shut it down. Inbetween 2 & 6 hours I will go one way or the other on how I feel. But the other posters here are right on & off is harder on the PSU & the better the PSU & over powered the safer the boot ups are. If a PSU blows & burns out wrong every part in your computer can become toast. Most PSU can handle being turned on once a day & more. But in the end it is your call. The same thing can happen to the HD as well once a HD wears out (bearings) then the next time the HD is turned on it will not start thou most last for years & years. Other HD problems are different heads or & platters or & electronic going bad then can crap out @ anytime.
I would not worry to much about protecting the computer to much as in 5 to 10 years it will only be good for email & letters. Us nuts thou upgrade often & end up with LAN gaming systems which are fun. Then there are the super gamers who have to have the best all the time.
