FDisk can make the storage drive non active & I do not think it will kill all the data either. Only do you have FDisk on that OS ?.
With Win 98 I have had 2 active drives @ the same time with no problems.
But I have had to figure out with some HD's & some MoBo controllers what combo's & settings it would handle.
I had a WD HD that only worked by itself with the single drive jumper & had to be be moved to master jumper when a second drive was added.
When I added mobil IDE racks to some computers I had to shift the second removable HD's to a different place to get it to work.
Also nowdays with some IDE controllers you may have to put the master drive on the outside of the IDE cable & the slave drive on the middle connector.
