You don't need any different cables. Your router has a hub built-in, I believe. For connecting computers to hubs and switches and routers ( and... and...) you need straight trough cables.
You need crossover cable only for directly connecting two computers.


Tell us what operating systems you use. On win2k you either need to enable the gues user or create a user for the user working on the other computer - so he is being recognized as trusted person/computer...
