I should say, though, that in order to assess the hardware requirements, we should first find out what the primary use of the server is going to be, the storage requirements, and whether those 40 users are going to be concurrently hitting the server.
At any rate, we chose Dell (and believe me, I argued that we should build them ourselves since it would cost about 1/2 as much) because the support is excellent, and they offer a leasing program so we can upgrade every few years. The previous organization I worked for strictly uses Compaq servers, and they are equally as good. But they also use Compaq workstations, and I won't even comment on that choice.
