I made that argument with some other folks who were discussing this (before I actually had XP) and they said that those benchmarks were on a beta release, and the final release performs better than 2k. I would attribute the performance gaps to debugging code left in the beta, so it makes some sense. I'd have to go back to Anand and check the build he was using for his benches to confirm though.

According to one of those folks, this months MaximumPC gave WinXP a 10 out of 10.
