failing all else, most disk manufacturers offer a downloadable utilities suite on their websites. Usually this includes a utility that can write zeros across the entire drive.

All you have to do is let the utility run for a couple minutes (doing this to the entire drive can take hours) to wipe out the partition info at the beginning of the disk, and after that run fdisk again.
