There was some memory inside the player that would fill up slowly as you played movies. Once full, it wouldn't let you play anything else. You had to plug the phone cord back in so it could dial home, transfer the number of movies you watched, and get the secret code to clear the memory. AFAIK, there was only one player that you can clear yourself.
