You might want to try ludi's fix in the post not to far down below called file damage.

On my stepsons computer 800 MHz TBird using ME we could not install all the software to get the creative lab's DVD & hardware MPeg decoder to work. So we yanked the hardware decoder
& use Power DVD for software decoding works fine this way. We had added a G42 GTS PRO
with SVideo out for games & helps out the software decoding.
