ATI has a history of having dithering problems -
I don't know if they've solved it yet. The weird
dithering problem was suppressed, but still surfaced in directx and openGL tests on the
first-gen radeons.
But what you seem to be describing is a connectivity prob or a driver problem. Should also
double-check with your monitor manufacturer for
drivers too. Your monitor: LCD or CRT??
