Personally, I would boot the old system with the old drive installed as primary master and the new drive set up as secondary master.

Go to the C: drive, select the entire contents, and COPY (not move!) them to the first partition of the new drive. Then, open a DOS prompt and type SYS X: where X is the letter of the new drive's first partition.

Then, install the new drive in the new setup, boot immediately to safe mode, delete EVERYTHING in the device manager, reboot, and let Windows set up the new hardware. Have your drivers handy.
