I have two computers: one with ME (gaming) and the other with 2KPro (server). The only reason I'm using ME on the gaming computer is because Nvidia's 2K drivers don't support DVD acceleration. In terms of everyday tasks and game speed, ME and 2K are about the same. ME has been behaving itself quite nicely, but 2K is definitely more stable. Keep in mind 2K as a desktop needs 256megs RAM minimum. I'm getting away with 128 since all it does is serve files and burns the occasional CDR.

And one more thing. If you get 2K, you should get that program that forces the games to launch at near top priority. Otherwise, they'll be damn slow.
