in this case the lower power parts aren't necessarily more expensive to produce, they just take higher-grade parts, and run them at lower clocks/lower core voltages.

AMD is in the mobile market, K6, K6-2, K6-2/3+...and most recently a couple Duron models that were basically assigned to mobile using the process I just described.
