I think some clarification is in order.
I was a prolific reader in my younger years, had a large vocabulary, and generally worked hard for my grades. This got me two things, a reputation as a smart kid and a general rejection by my peers. I endured a lot of teasing and harassment, and knew what it was like to be forced into a 'loner' mentality. From about 6th grade through 9th I could count my schoolyard friends on one hand.
I grew up in a stable, well-adjusted household but this much I know, remove even one of the major positive influences in my life during that time period and I might very well have tried something stupid. And this much I also know, in spite of loving parents who were around quite a bit and took an interest in my well-being, I could have rounded up some nasty things and taken them to school had I so desired, without them ever finding out until after the fact.
With all due respect, these efforts to blame this party or that and file lawsuits against any organic entity that moves only amount to so much legal toilet paper, and still aren't enough to clean up the buckets of horse manure that are being dumped all over this by angry people who think the clear lenses of hindsight are a legitimate set of spectacles for viewing what is now bygone history.
From the accounts I read, the Harris and Klebolds were respected, middle-class families with modest-achieving, well-adjusted kids save for two.
And quite frankly, I think many parents out there who are judging the scenario with a "never happen here" mentality would be truly surprised, and in some cases quite horrified, to find out just what kind of weaponry and weapons-related knowledge their kids have ready access to, and to what extent their kids may have vaguely contemplated some sort of exacting revenge in darker moments of bullying and harrassment.
Just my not-so-humble two cents.
