You can see how far you can push the system before it craps out but you may corrupt some drivers / programs and if that is your main-box, don't do it (no pun but you're not the greatest overclocker around here )
If this is a test system where it doesn't matter, go for it and keep your eyes, ears and nose close to the (open) case. Maybe you find something new, you never know .... (hehe)

OTOH, I have lost count of the hardware that I fried over the past years, the neatest was a hole in the chipset where the memory controller used to be on one of my favorite boards (Shuttle AV14)
