Thanks.....my post was not clear enough.

The lightning struck system was Windows XP.........not 98 etc. I had done this type of thing on 98 or 2000 so hoped to do it on the current XP system as well.

I checked the AHCI and it was already off.

The CD drive is recognized and can be used. There was just some weirdness with running the M/B and video drivers install programs.

Sorry........would have loved for your easy to do response to have worked.

I did try turning ON the AHCI and that didn't make any difference.
