Hey guys.....been quite a while. Busy with moving my business since the first of the year and not much time for computer fun !

Question regarding a dead computer box after a nearly dead on lightning strike.

The cpu was plugged into a UPS as was the Dell flat panel monitor. The monitor is fine but the box won't power up.

There was a wicked burn smell in the room just after the strike, but the cpu smells fine on the inside. The burn smell could have been ozone from the lightning......it was really right outside the house. I was standing next to the kitchen sink when it hit and the hair on my arm stood up.....it was as close as I've ever been to lightning.

First thought would be to swap out the power supply. However, I have had a couple power supplies fried by bad motherboards (at least that was my diagnosis after hooking them up to test a board and then having them immediately die). Can a bad mb kill a power supply?

If the monitor is fine then the lightning could have come in through the phone or cable lines. However, phone and tv/cable internet both still work fine.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks,
BH
