I've always tried to wait until an upgrade will deliver at least a 50% improvement in functional speed.
I'm not sure ont he benchmarks but at 2x 2.66GHZ and 2x1GB 1333FSB - that should be getting up there against a 90nm 2.8GHz + 2x256MBx800FSB. (which was all 2nd hand pieces put together 2 years ago mind you).
I probably should have spent the extra $30 for good 6400 DDR2 for some head room but hey....where do you stop....+$30 for Corsair CL4 instead of CL5...etc....
This system was for our HTPC (which worked fine on many levels until it seems to have died Thursday) - I now have to upgrade my 477Pin 2.8GHz P4P800 with 256MBx800_DDR2 system (broken pin)...on which of course I'm still running a Matrox Vid with MJPEG capture encoder and subsequently Win98SE.
Time to bite the bullet and encode all my MJPEG's to DVD/Divx I guess and send the MJPEG to the "good while it lasted" history bucket..
