Is that the platter motor[the one that spins the disc]?If it is you can hook up a low volts battery[5-9volts]to see if it works .It should have two terminals ;one with a + or a red dot,the positive terminal;the other negative -.There,s usually three motors in a CD/DVD drive.Platter motor;Load motor;Laser sled motor.They,re all low vollts,DC motors.Its one way of opening drives that won,t when connected normally.attatch a couple of wires to yourload motor and a battery;reversing the connection gives you load/unload.

Brushless motors are used where you need to reverse direction ;for operations.A "brushless motor"control chip might be used in the drive;but its not neccessary ,to test the motor.
