At least I can watch something (most times) in Power DVD whilst the TV package is recording something else in the background - but cant encode whilst TV package is on.

It did make some difference though. Leads me to think something to do with Power Loads?

Could the CPU and cooler need a vacuum?
I dont have a CPU Voltage Monitor package installed, but maybe could loacte a freeware....any suggestions?
