there is a new trojan out there that does RS encryption of all files and slows things down like a mofo... it is the latest in the genre of extort viruses that require ransom payments of a couple of 100 $US to get the clean-up tool.

Don't know whether this is related but since it has been in the news in the last few days I thought maybe there is some coincidence.
