i have found that some onboard stuffs just don't workie properly, especially with the NIC's
i just throw in a $10 PCI realtech based 10/100 NIC and forgo the eventual onboard fubarage.
i know this doesn't 'solve' your basic problem, my experience has been if you start having problems with onboard NIC's, about 99% of the time it doesn't go away...
