Actually I have a tail from along time ago of a shorted cap on the +5 volt main on the motherboard blownout with a car charger. I seen this with my own eyes & the MoBo booted up & started working after this, was one of my best friends. The cap no longer had a short so the MoBo started working, thou you have to figure that cap no longer worked. This trick he didnt even have to figure out which cap was bad as he sent the power thru all the main caps. Believe it or not the MoBo worked fine after that.

Now something like this working on more complex modern MoBo's not much of a chance.
