I went ahead and let my son order the new PC parts.
Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi
2.4G Duo Core 2
2x 1Gig A Data 1.8v 5-5-5 RAM
e-Geforece 7950 GT KO vid card.
700W Coolmax power supply.
CoolerMaster Centurion 534 case.
Floppy/card reader combo.
Also a sound card and 2x 300G WD SATA HDs and DVD burner, but THOSE have not been installed yet..... because....
THE DAMN THING WON'T POST.
Hit power button, the ASUS blue light comes on, then red, then red goes out. blue stays on. All connected fans spin for a moment or three, then stop. That's it, nothing else.
We have tried it with only one stick RAM, other one, different slots, NO RAM. Tried it with no vid card.
Removed heatsink and verified CPU is oriented corrrectly.
Now I've gotta take the thing to local PC shop, pay them to find out what is bad and return it. Nobody I know has ANY of these parts.
One question - the RAM sockets are black and yellow. One B/Y pair is channel A, the other is B. Do I put the sticks in channel A for DUAL, or both in same color sockets???
And what ELSE can I try to fix my $1500 PAPER WEIGHT????
