its a bit of a leap, but not a huuuuge one. merom is 64 bith, yonah is 32... both will let you do just about anything you want to do.. apparently intel has reported a 20% performance increase for merom... seems like a lot but it isnt that much because the benchmarks are based on time, a few milliseconds here and there. intel has thought ahead though... yonah will be easily upgradable to merom... and they're planning more core 2 duo's in the future... like Q3 of 2007 when theyre expecting to launch a super fast, super efficient, ultra voltage processor. I decided to go with a yonah core duo right now and plan to upgrade next year. make sure you have a compatible motherboard though, a 945G will do very well.
