Iam not to crazy over this news either, but for different reasons. Because I believe ATI played all its trump cards, distracted in the game unit business, then coming to the market late with the 1800 series Video Card (transistor trouble). Only to turn around & release the 1900 series (there future tech) on the 1800 series heels. So I believe that ATI will be slow to market with its next real series of Video Cards which may only be like a die srink & speed bumps with some tweaking in there. Mistakes have been made & they will continue to make more mistakes.
BTW ATI lost out selling me a Video Card just because they dragged there heels on adding Shader Model 3.0. So from where I am standing these two under dogs joining forces may not be a good thing. Remember that AMD has a big battle coming up from intel & I am not sure AMD is really ready for this new challenge, besides intel just did a massive price cut already, so any profits are cut down again. Intel really seems to be trying to kill AMD profit margins & gain back some ground from AMD & AMD has not proven that its really strike back at intel anytime soon.
