Ya been there done that on the "personal matter" myself. I worked best if I had a working example to use, then modified it to work with mine project. Thou I went backwards & went to smaller more simpler programs for micro controllers chips.
Ok thinking this over I think I see your problem. Not only is there the 64k boundry limit 64k is the limit of video memory in the first 1 MB of ram. So you need the address of the video ram at 65536 or 64k +1. More then likely this is only partly true.
My old mapping the PC only covered 320 x 200 4 colors to 640 x 200 BW so my books are to old to help ya.
