A buddy just gave me a Linksys BEFSR11 1-port router. He said I need to hook it between my cable modem and my switch and all will be good (well, aside from the XP machine's little network problem). Does this sound correct?

That also brings me to another question- My Kingston switch is big- it's a rack-mount deal. It has a loud fan- louder than all the PC's together! I noticed on Linksys's website that alot of their gear is compact and stackable, so I was thinking of replacing the Kingston with a Linksys (I don't guess I need 8 ports anyway). So, with my setup in mind (cable modem, single-port router), should I get another switch or should I get a hub? There is alot of large-file transfers between my computers, if that makes a difference.
