you have several options in that situation.

You can re-compile a kernel with the modules and options needed by your other machine, and include it, (Not overwriteing the old one) in your /boot directory.

You can create a kernel that has both systems drivers and options etc, which will make a much bigger/slower kernel.

You can also just move the drive straight over, and use a liveCD to boot and repair it.

And last but not least, you can move the drive, and just do a reinstall on top of it, without formatting, and you can keep your files and directory structure.

The odds of it properly booting without some extra configuration are slim, but can vary a lot with your distrobution and how customized the kernel is.

One thing to look out for is the disk name, if your boot drive is /dev/hda1 on your current computer that is where the boot loader will try and boot to if you just move it, so it wont work as a second drive such as /dev/hdb1.
